Pumpkin and pepto. Also let them sleep in your bed. It comforts them, especially now.

If he's acting otherwise normal then I do the same thing you mentioned with the 24 hour fast followed by bland diet. Slow transition back to his usual food over 1-3 days.

If he's having all of that diarrhea +/- vomiting + lethargy/weakness/depression/etc... then it's time to see your vet.

If the diarrhea does not resolve with that plan it's also time to see your vet.

I bet he starts eating grass. They do this to settle their stomach.

There is absolutely 0 evidence to support this on a scientific level. It's an old wives tale.

Pepto dose is 1 tsp per 5 lbs. Also, use pure pumpkin, not the pie filling. My dogs will eat the pumpkin off a spoon. Good luck

OK, well, mine always did it when she had diarrhea. Actually the last 2 dogs I owned did. Maybe ignore the second sentence in my previous reply. But I'll still bet he starts eating grass if his stomach is fricked up.

Canned pumpkin mixed in their food. You can mix the pumpkin with rice as well. My lab gets the shits weekly because she eats everything within reach.

Or because you keep feeding her pumpkin out of a can?

Not a dog owner, eh? Vets have been recommending canned pumpkin forever. My neighborhood is new with about 12 houses under construction at any given time. The workers dump shite (food wrappers, chicken bones, etc) in the lots where they work and the undeveloped spaces. We walk her daily and labs will eat damn near anything. Hell, she's 120 lbs and can reach anything in the kitchen that my wife can.

UPDATE

Have my dog a cup of white rice with chicken broth and bone broth last night, he ate it all. Have it to him again this morning with a 1/4 cup of dog food and he seems to be feeling much much better.

Also, we started giving him greenies as treats a few times a day based off a tip from a friend. I'm hypothesizing that's what messed up his stomach

white rice, chicken, sweet potato and pumpkin!

Never fails!

Slowly mixed dog food back in when poop gets back to normal.

Its a pain to fix all that for the dog, but its 1000x better than dog food.

If me and the wife were not so lazy then we would feed all our dogs that food all the time

Its an old wives tale, but dogs know what they need. Eating grass is what they do whenever they feel sick or about to get sick. And most I have seen are very particular in the "grass" they eat. Mine would go around the 5 acres we have and pick one type of weed to eat at various times. Other times he would pick a different weed (species). Sometimes he would vomit afterwards, which i believe is what he felt he needed to do. Anyways, some old wives tales are based on truth.
