I am moving in January to a new state and was wondering this. If I bring my prescription bottle to a new doctor will he refill it after talking to him? Or does the doctor have to see my medical records?

AIDS regimens can be tricky. Bring your records.

He/She will likely refill your existing meds after your seen for the first time. They will rely on your own historical accuracy as much as possible if you don't have records.

This is assuming your meds are applicable to that doctors specialty.

Don't bring your vicodin to your endocrinologist. Don't bring BP meds to your GI. Etc...

He will definitely want your prior medical records and will have a release for you to sign. Definitely take your prescription bottles with you when you see him. Depending on his assessment, he may refill your existing medications, depending on what they are. If your present doc will give you a copy of your latest history and physical to take with you, that would definitely be appreciated by your new doctor.

I would imagine a physician would always want to see ones medical records. But I'm sure there is a difference in the type of medication, and more controlled substances would probably require the most precaution on their part.

there's a federal Rx registry. He can access it and see your RXs. Will also want your prior meds.

Carry your Prescriptions in.Hopefully before they're empty. You'll probably sign something for them to send for your Medical Records.

And it depends on what it is.Is it Scheduled.Doctors will usually take you on if they're are comfortable writing what you're being prescribed at present.

Good luck.

Check your prescriptions to see if they have refills left on them. If not, go to your current doc one last time and have him renew the scrips before you leave. That will give you a year to find a new doctor without worrying about running out of your meds. Get them filled at a national chain and you'll have no problem wherever you go.

Just have your routine down. Reference that car accident from like 5 years ago. You know how to do it.
