How do people get arrested for Marijuana possession?

With news of Speedy Noil getting arrested for pot possession, how do these people get caught?
I can see a dealer getting arrested, but I know so many people who smoke it and none of them have had any trouble with the law.
Weed is all over LSU's campus and the surrounding area, yet I don't know anyone who has been arrested for it.

Getting pulled over for something unrelated and the cop can smell weed in the car.

He should have went to Alabama. He could have gotten caught with weed and an unlicensed gun and been good to go.

You're right. You pretty much have to be smoking while you get pulled over and then refuse to put it out while being questioned. The police today don't want to arrest someone for simple possession.

Having weed on you when doing anything else you could get caught for
Such as: DUI, MIP, getting in a fight, etc
Encountering a dickhead cop or just acting like a complete idiot or a-hole toward him is the easiest way

I've been arrested twice for possession
First time, I was a long haired hippie and a cop pulled me over and smelled it
Second time, I fell asleep eating a burrito in my car
Cops came to wake me up, thinking I OD'd on heroin... when I woke up, I kicked a nug from under my seat into view

I knew several when I was at LSU. Mainly people that got pulled over it with it in the car. Others being dumb at concerts.
I knew a few dudes that had their dealer over at the cottages and get so happens that the landlord's handyman had come by and saw a bong +plus other shite. He called the landlord and the landlord called the cops. Cops kicked the door down. the dude had a shite load of pills on him.

Because cops literally use the phrase "I smelled weed" to justify literally anything. And when you use that phrase to justify unlawful searches, you have to arrest for it when you find the smallest amount.
