I know that currently the US is the last Western country not offering maternity leave at a federal level.

How long do you think Maternity leave should be. The common limit is 6 weeks at the most for the US.

Should Paternity and Maternity leave be equal. This is why I dislike the feminist movement,it only looks at things from one angle.

ETA: Referring to Government mandated leave for mothers and fathers like in the other western nations (Europe and Australia)

No issue with it if a company is willing to allow for it (paternity leave I mean).

My company is letting me telecommute when my daughter is born. Best of both worlds.

Maternity leave in all honesty should be twelve weeks minimum and it shouldnt be shite on and frowned upon like it is in this country.

We've come along way on that, but companies still frick over new moms pretty regularly.

As far as paternity leave goes, I can never decide where I land on that. It should probably be a couple weeks just to help the family out of the hospital and getting settled.

I'm against mandatory paid maternity leave unless they accrue personal leave time.

Having worked in an office with young females before, I end up doing 2-3 of their jobs a year. Headache.

paid or unpaid should be left up to employee-employer. I would hope companies don't force people into difficult situations because they have to come back to work early because they aren't getting anything, but I would hope employees don't take advantage of paid leave.

So you're against it.

Plenty of lazy guys in the workforce too. One of my coworkers is 6 month pregnant and she's still working out in the field and will only be taking off a month. She works harder than most others here.

We've got too many people, quit rewarding employees for making new people. If anything, you should get leave for getting snipped.

MrsWafer (no pics) had 12 weeks. I feel like 6 is fine but 12 made it a lot easier for us.

You usually have to pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.

Usually they set caps on how much leave you can take at a time. I think uncapped for maternity. If you have it, you can use it

And if you just started the job and only have a few days? That's ridiculous.

Limit implies they wont let you take more, that is incorrect. My wife took 10 weeks for both of my children. They werent 10 weeks paid, but legally they had to let her take what she wanted up to 12 weeks I believe.
