Let's say you have someone with a medical emergency and they call for an ambulance. All they can say is the address and it's an emergency before they pass out, or for whatever reason can no longer communicate.

If it's like 3AM, when the ambulance pulls up to the gate how do they get in without having a code? It doesn't seem like they'd just ram full speed through the gate. Do they have like a universal code or something they put in?

Same way UPS drivers, pizza delivery drivers, etc do

Most of them have a universal code. At least thats how it works in my subdivision.

Pretty sure the community is required to tell the city the code

With most of those type of deals though they can just ask you for the gate code, or might be lucky enough to just follow someone else through.

Interesting. How does that work? Does the company that installs the code kiosk thing just know what they need to program it to?

Fire department has a key. The rest use a code. They usually let the local services know when they change it.

So when a new community goes up, whenever they build the gate system and tell the city, does the police deparmtnet just have a master list on file? So like when they dispatch an ambulance do they also say "by the way the code is _____"?

Yes or the police just has a master code for every gate in the area

Most of the gated subdivisions in my district change their codes periodically and notify us and Fire/Rescue.

There are some that have had the same code for over 10 years. You can almost guess the code by the discolored buttons on the keypad.

Are you planning on offing your SO and want to make sure the ambulance can't get to your place in time? Nice work

I'm not asking you for specifics...but are most communities pretty similar and easy, something like 911? Or are they all pretty much just random?

There's usually a # somewhere in there and mostly 4 number combos

One gate I've seen had a small sign attached that said to open this gate in emergencies yelp like a dog for 6 seconds. no lie. I've never tried it but was always curious.

Guarantee there was a camera there to see who would end up trying it

Look man, your plan to rob the houses on Audubon Place and get away with it because of the confused cops at the gate holds no water.

I've seen that too. Most say "Emergency Vehicles, Yelp for entry" I always wondered if they play their sirens it will open upon that sound?

I don't think pizza delivery guys have access to gated communities like emergency personnel does

Gotta be this.

Just set aside a code for emergency vehicles that will be on file at dispatch and make sure they're aware of any updates. I'm sure they'd be liable for preventing aid because of a "gate code"
