How did we get to this level of racial tension in the US?

IMO it's the worst it's been since segregation and will continue to intensify.
You can get yourself real pissed off and negative by responding to it everyday for sure. It's really unavoidable if you have tv/radio/social media in any form. If you step back and look at the US society today, it's absolutely obsessed with proving that "everyone else" is racist. There are never good stories about races getting along or uniting for a great cause (which happens all day every day but that doesn't sell media).

Social media plays a huge part in this. Everyone has something to say, no matter how ignorant it may be. Social media gives idiots a platform to display their idiocy.

I would love to blame Obama, but that would place blame in the wrong spot.
It is social media. There are more morons than good people and now they have a platform to unite the stupidity.

I travel this country for work interacting with thousands of people and what I see on TV isn't anywhere I go.

compare race relations in this country from 2000-2008 to race relations in this country from 2009-2016. Now what , or who, could have caused the difference?

From the "for the firtt time in my adult life I'm proud of my country" to the "if you disagree with Obama about anything you are a racist" to the "the police who temporarily apprehended a black man they believed was breaking into a home" to the "the two black panthers standing outside the polling booth in Philadelphia pounding their batons against their hands screaming about crckers were not intimidating voters" to the well you get the idea.... Obama will go down as THE worst President in history and this will be the primary reason why.

In all seriousness I encourage others to watch this video. It's a long video (17 minutes) but it discusses season 19 and makes so many great points about our current political environment. It points out exactly why we are where we are in this country and why some groups are acting the way they are. Don't dismiss it simply because it's about South Park.

I think outsized media coverage played a part. Without 24 hour news or the internet would anyone really give a frick about Michael Brown or burning down Ferguson?
