Solar Road Ways

How much would it cost to install a Solar Driveway and how soon would it pay for it's self. It would be so cool to light up a many basketball court, hopscotch or four square grid for your kids to play on.

That is an amazing concept. I'm sure the initial cost of replacing the entire road infrastructure of cities, towns, and the country in totality would be a massive undertaking, but in the end it could pay off.

I wonder how long would it take to pay off? I would love to install a drive way with these panels

It's a cool concept, it just looks ungodly expensive and cost-prohibitive

I like the idea a lot in theory...just can't see how it would be durable enough to be feasible in reality, though...

Cool idea for around the house. As for roads, it's a stupid idea on so many levels.

Why besides being costly?

The idea and idea alone are the only thing cool and viable about this project.. How do the lights project surface marking during the day? What glass is strong enough to handle this type of continues ware and tear

The technology itself is pretty cool and has some interesting applications in the private or public space arenas.. Can you imagine the cost of digging the 3-4 foot tenches they show in the video? I can see a future where nano technology allows for sheeting of roads that could have the desired affect using motion powered processing.

So cities and states can't maintain concrete and asphalt yet you greenies want to put them in charge of maintaining solar equipment??

I'm sure everyone on here could afford to pay for it for their whole city.

When people say the solar panels they have paid for themselves in 5 to 7 years they are only talking about the 10 to 20% of the pricetag THEY paid for them. The 80% of the rest of the cost was paid for by taxpayers ( yes I know they are taxpayers too). Am I the only one that thinks that solar panels actually pay for themselves in 25 to 35 years? I'm sure nothing is going to break in 25 to 35 years right. I agree that the gov't can't maintain roads now can you imagine maintaining solar panels roads. Holy Crap.

What happens when a semi jackknifes and ends up on its side still dragging all that metal down the road at 70 mph? We can't even get phone screens not to crack when you drop them from 2 feet.

It would be cool if 80,000 pound trucks didn't have to drive on them.

If we can't build concrete roads that last what makes someone think we could build one out of solar panels?
