Get rid of the corrupt arse politicians and the good ole boy system and then we'll start to rise.

This is the obvious answer but Louisiana has been corrupt at least as far back as Huey Long. I don't ever see it changing.

Have you guys tried raising taxes, avoiding investments in infrastructure, or fighting independent school districts? Maybe try electing a few more tax-and-spend Democrats or "conservatives" that don't ever support legislation to reduce spending.

Now you're getting why we need Texas style tort reform.

Also needs to be said that it is incredibly fricked up that the Louisiana state government is actually competing with the private sector to see who can employ more people.

Louisiana will never attract enough business because there is a lack of skilled/educated workforce

this starts with education at early ages.

Too many people in the state DGAF about educating their children

What it boils down to is, the entire middle and northern portion of the state isn't worth a damn. Nobody wants to live near nothing. So basically, we have 1/3rd of a state that people would like to live in. Fix up that part

If you'd like to know how to get a plant or factory somewhere, it isn't through continuous tax breaks. You give incentives for building the plant, and then continue taxing as normal in perpetuity. But first, they need a reason to be here

I have a proposal, but I will start with stating that I do not think Louisiana would exercise this opportunity until it is too late to take a large advantage.

To fix education, Louisiana should use Colorado's model and start selling recreational marijuana.

Colorado forces the first of the taxes collected on marijuana sales to go to rebuilding schools, and the public school fund.

Here's the full breakdown:

Totals in Colorado:

2015-16

Total 2015-16 marijuana revenue for CDE: $86.3 million
Total 2015-16 state education funding: $5.3 billion

2016-17

Total 2016-17 marijuana revenue for CDE: $54.2 million
Total 2016-17 state education funding: $5.4 billion

Source: LINK

The sales are most advantageous when less states are selling recreationally. (It will not help if Louisiana is the 45th state to start).

Anyways, I believe it has potential, but we will never see it..

Most taxes I believe, come from business. Whatever it takes to attract big business. Tax incentives should be fine as long as the state can at least break even with it. No income tax like TX and FL?

And weed

It really will not be "everyone." Jobs will still drug test and could fire you for a positive marijuana screening.

It's not feasible. The population here is dumb as shite and will continue to elect leadership who either look to enrich themselves or will be so dissuaded by the corruption and frickery here that they do nothing(Jindal's second term). Sucks to say, but it is true.

It always gets blamed on demographics but I grew up with plenty of middle class kids who had parents that did not stress education or getting to college. Lots of people here somehow believe the oil industry will always be the ticket but as we've seen recently, that couldn't be further from the truth. It'll always be boom or bust.
