Guys, I'm hosting a poker game (4-5 people) this weekend and it's been years since most of us, myself included, have played.

I have a set of chips (white, red, green, blue, black) and I'm trying to remember how to organize this thing. Can someone give me a run down on how to distribute each color chip and what $ amount they should be assigned along with a general blind schedule?

I think we do

Dollar, 50, quarter, dime and a nickel.

You can set the blinds however you want, depending on how fast you want the game to be over with. Maybe start off with nickel and dime blinds and up it every 30 minutes with a cap at a dollar and 50.

I have a friend that will come deal for you. I think he takes 1-2 % of buy in, or minimum $200.

I would do at most three amounts for example

white $0.50
Red, Blue Green $1.00
Black $5.00

otherwise you will spending a lot of time explaining over and over the amounts.

This is quite deceiving

Whatever you do, make sure each person starts out with 100x the first big blind. If you want to create more action, make the blinds go up every 10 minutes; otherwise, I'd do 20-25. That's a really small group so I'd be inclined to do it faster but that's just me.

ETA: Agree with the guy that said only 3 amounts and good denominations.
