Thirty-two people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, three of them fatally, pushing the number of homicides so far this year to nearly double the same period last year. As of early Monday, the city had recorded at least 91 homicides since the first of the year compared with 47 over the same time last year, according to data kept by the Tribune. Overall, there have been at least 416 shooting in Chicago this year compared with 193 a year ago — a 115 percent increase.

The weekend's youngest shooting victim was a 3-year-old boy wounded in the leg as he played with a relative in the 5600 block of South Wolcott Avenue on Saturday afternoon. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the boy apparently was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang fight. No one was reported in custody.

A group of people had started fighting inside the Shrine, at 2109 S. Wabash Ave., just before 2 a.m. and were escorted outside by the club’s security, police said. Shortly afterward, someone fired shots from a burgundy car in front of the club. A 29-year-old woman was shot in the head and a 36-year-old man, a security guard at the club, was shot in the leg, according to police. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the woman was listed in critical condition and the guard was stabilized, police said.

Those strict gun laws they have seem to be keeping the criminals in check...

These aren't the kind of gun crimes that would be solved by more guns
These aren't robberies against unarmed citizens or muggings in the FQ
These are gang and drug related due to the pervasiveness of gang culture in Chicago and to simply say "LOL at your strict gun laws, if only everyone had a CCW" is completely missing the issue here

No, it's not, though I do think the gun laws are dumb here.
It's been much, much warmer here this year over January and February than it was last year.
Last year had one of the coldest winters in Chicago history, and this year has been very warm (it was in the 60's this weekend). That is also playing a part in this. Usually it's too cold in January and February for there to be significant violence here (summers are an entirely different story).
It is disappointing as Chicago experienced a two-decade long, dramatic drop in gun violence that plateaued last year.
As cruel as it sounds, this stuff is mainly confined to certain zip codes, and it has for quite a while. It does not really affect daily life in the city for most.

Do people in Chicago just subscribe to "out of sight, out of mind"?
Nola can't do that since the city has bad and good areas so mixed.
Do you think these people are just going to kill each other off eventually?
ETA:
And the weather 100% affects crime statistics. That isn't debatable.
