First off, last Sunday our Outback was totaled while my wife sat at a stop sign. A lady pulled out to cross a bypass without seeing a car coming at 70 mph and it tboned her, throwing her into our car. I'm gonna miss it, loved that car.

Anyway, on to the matter at hand. After a week of searching, the best deal we could find that fit our price range and needs was a 2011 Toyota Venza. Now I realize the styling on these wasn't for everyone. But my brother in law HATES the way they look, and was basically trying to destroy the car with words last night. After a short discussion, we decided we both wanted other opinions.

I myself never really liked them. But I actually like this particular Venza. I especially like the way it looks when compared to the Outback. Outbacks arent ugly, just kinda plain. On this Venza, the rims make a huge difference, imo. If it had the smaller 17 inch rims I don't think it would look anywhere near as good. The 20s really fill out the wheel well making it look sportier and more athletic. The small extension spoiler help it look a little longer and lower too, doesn't look as fat and bloated as some Venzas. Plus, the paint being a metallic pearl really pops.

So here is where I want your help, and yes I realize this probably won't go well. Looking at the pictures below, does this car look good, average, or ugly?

Edit: I've posted these before. But here is the wife. I mean, you guys are doing me a favor my commenting, so I'll actually deliver a little something extra.

I don't think it looks bad. Is it safe, reliable and affordable?

My old boss had one and she loved it.

Is your brother in law paying for part/all of the car?

I'd just get another outback. I've never even heard of a Venza.

Please tell me that is his minivan in the background of that last pic?

And who cares what your BIL thinks. If it fits your budget and lifestyle then go for it. I stoped worrying about what other people think a long time ago.

What's the conundrum? Are you splitting costs of the vehicle with the brother-in-law? Does he have an ownership interest in the vehicle as well? If not, who the hell cares if he "HATES" the way they look?

I'm not big on crossovers, but I had one of these as a rental and it's a very nice vehicle to drive. Quiet, comfortable, and plenty of room.

Way to plan looking for my taste, but if you like it, screw your BIL and buy it.

Tell your brother in law that unless he's paying for your new car then his opinion doesn't matter and he needs to shut his trap if he knows what's good for him.

To answer your question, I see no problem with the Toyota in the pictures for a station wagon/hatch back type vehicle.

Venza is a good car. I would drive it. Get what you want, tell your BIL to keep his mouth shut
