Help me fix this toilet

I have two roommates. One girl. One guy. My buddy has his own private bathroom upstairs and leaves hella early for work. Me and the lady are usually getting out shite together at the same time. Mind you this isn't my SO or anything. Out of respect I will occasionally take a morning shite upstairs in my buddy's private bath because I don't wanna stink it up down here. Well my roommate upstairs is none to pleased about me dropping loads in his toilet so now I just do it on the sly. Well. Just now I go Hiroshima out of my a-hole up there because she was legitimately in the shower. Go for the courteous flush for myself. Won't flush. I'm thinking. frick me. Not even done poopin. Shitty arse. I finagle the top off which had all kinds of bullshite on it. No water in the tank. I'm fricking around with the little knob on the left. Finally get some flowage. But not much. Enough to flush my liqour shits though. Now the bitch won't stop running. And it's not even filling up. I feel like my roommate did something on purpose to frick with me because there is no way he goes through this every morning. How can I make it stop running without completely shutting off the valve?

bad flapper. The water is just draining into the bowl. It's a $5 part from Home Depot

Sounds like the seal on the inside of the tank is messed up. It's the little flap thing that comes up when you press the handle.
I had the same problem with mine and once I replaced that it was fine.

Flap is hung up or the float is stuck up top making the toilet think the water tank is full. ETA Which keeps it from flowing to fill back up.

The whole back tank will not fill with water. I had to push down on this black rod to get just a little in there. Now it won't stop running.

Sounds like your roommate turned off the water to his toilet because it kept running

Sounds like the float and the flap. The float hangs up to keep it from filling, then doesn't float back up to stop the water because the flap is leaking.
Press on the flap to let the tank fill, then flush. Once the runs have ran, go to Home Depot and by a kit to replace all that. Or, you can set it back to how it was and let your roomate deal with it.

Look just go to Lowes and get a whole new fluidmaster kit. Its a total "guts" replacement with new flapper and all. The instructions are very simple and clear and the kit is under 20 bucks I think

Well ONE OF YOU YAHOOS run up to Lowes, home depot, or wal mart even and drop 20 bucks that fluid master kit. It takes about 20 to pull the old stuff, put new kit in, and all you need is a pair of channel lock pliers
