There's no way JBE signs that.

He said it's the matter of the city, but I believe if it hits his desk he'll sign it.

If he doesn't, that all but guarantees him being a 1 term governor.

No fricking way. Without the black vote, he stands no chance in 2019, even if Vitter runs.

Letting the monuments stand won't take away the black vote for a democrat.

He's already guaranteed to be a 1 term governor, as long as a hypocritical zealot with a penchant for cheap hookers isn't the Republican running against him.

White 2,836,192 62%
Black or African American 1,452,396 32%

Well he needs more White votes to win so i agree he just needs to not veto it.

Will this bill pass?

Election isn't until 2 years from now. Most of his voters won't even be thinking about monuments in 2 years, regardless of the outcome....and the only way it even gets brought up in the campaign is if he gets a Democrat challenger. No Republican candidate would criticize him for signing a bill to keep the monuments.

Considering all three monuments are West Point grads, surely JBE will sign the bill? I mean he is all about West Point honor. Only honorable men can come from West Point as he has told us 1000000000000 times

If it gets through committee, it should get through the House. Only concern is does Alario and the Senate kill it.

If it survives the Senate, I think JBE either signs it or refuses to veto it.

If he vetoed it, West Point may come take that senior ring he likes to show off so much

That will take weeks at minimum. How does that protect the monuments when Mitch is imminently taking them down?

All these people both For and Against these monuments are out of their damn minds.

They are freaking statues.

In a city and state that is always on the lowest lows on economic barometers this is a complete waste of time and resources.

To be honest, I grew up in the NOLA metro area (Metairie and Lakeview) and paid absolutely no mind to these statues. In fact I didn't even know we had Liberty Monument or who the hell Pt Beauregard was other than a guy on a horse in front of NOMA.

It can't necessarily. This is about preserving whatever is left.

from the article today in the Advocate, It looks like some of the statures are on the nation historic registry. 1 Mayor shouldnt be able to touch them.

I think the session ends early-mid June...not sure how long before it goes into law if JBE doesn't affirmatively sign it.
