After a long chat with the people over at Bose, we decided that it had to be a problem with the iPad 2. The headset streams media and has no problem with phone calls on my GS3.
Basically I get to the bluetooth settings, I pair it, it's connected, it shows that it is connected in the media player, and the sound still comes out of the iPad 2's external speakers. I just don't know why it has all of the sudden stopped working. Once the bt headset is paired, the external speakers should be disabled.
I have had repeated problems with connectivity, where I have to turn on BT, turn off BT, turn off the device, turn on the device, forget the headset, repair the headset, I mean, it's a damn big headache.
The guy at Bose said that he has never heard this problem, and that many people he talks to have great relationships between the series 2 headset and the iPad 2.
Any and all help is appreciated.
... I updated the headset this morning, after encountering the problem, it has not made a difference.
ETA: Bose tech advised me that the headset is fully compatible with iPad 2
