Thank you for your interest in the TSA Canine Training Center Adoption Program. Dogs available for adoption are ones that do not meet the TSA Canine Training Center criteria for government work. These dogs are highly active and in most cases, untrained and not house broken, but with proper training and care, they can be a great addition to families. On occasion, there are dogs that have been retired from government service.

Applications are processed on a first come first served basis. Every effort is made to pair applicants who meet all requirements with dogs that suit their home, family and lifestyle.

If you are a law enforcement or a non-profit service agency interested in obtaining a dog from the program please send an email for additional information.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

I think they're trainable, just not for the duties of the TSA.

Oh... Canine... I first thought it said “Cocaine adoption”

That I could get behind; not sure about the dogs though.

I have not adopted from TSA. That being said I would have no hesitation doing so.

My niece wants to so bad she can't stand it, but her mom won't let her have a dog.

Lol, There's probly a huge difference in teaching Fido to play fetch rather than sniffing out coke from someone's a-hole

I knew a couple of guys who got retired dogs from U.S. Customs and they were good pets. Nothing to share regarding TSA.

Agree.

Couldn't cut it as a bomb sniffing dog? Definitely can't teach it to not shite in the house.

But they're not even housebroken. They must buy litters of dogs, give them the sniff test and then kick the ones that don't pass to the curb.

Correct, the shepherds and mals are typically held back for other duties. I looked into it but only got that far bc I wanted another shepherd..

I can't even imagine a dog dumb enough to not make it in the TSA. Have you seen the people they let in?

I saw a beagle (at Logan in Boston) one time jumping all over the luggage coming out of the pick up chute onto the conveyor. He was an industrious little guy and evidently responded to one case. He stopped dead and wouldn't leave it. I had to leave before whomever came by to pick it up.

I would think nearly all of them would make good pets. I would imagine the TSA just buys a bunch of dogs and begins training them. At some point they make a choice of which ones are trainable to that level and which are not. Doesn't mean they can't be trained to be a great family dog it just means they aren't cut out for training that advanced.
