This should be gold for the OT.

quote:

The Louisiana Legislature is weighing a bill that would make it a hate crime to target police officers and firefighters -- mimicking a national movement to carve out protections for law enforcement.

The House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee unanimously agreed on Wednesday to send the hate crime extension to the full House for consideration. House Bill 953 would also have to be vetted by the Senate.

State Rep. Lance Harris, an Alexandria Republican who is pushing the bill, said a recent spike in attacks on first responders has created the need for additional protection.

The part that will really upset the SJW's.

quote:

The movement -- at least one bill has been proposed at the Congressional level -- has been dubbed the “Blue Lives Matter” effort, in contrast to the “Black Lives Matter” advocacy campaign that highlights violence against African Americans, particularly at the hands of law enforcement.

Meh, if you're going to have "hate" crimes on the books in the first place, this seems like a valid addition.

Personally, I think it is a bit ridiculous that we put so much effort into distinguishing the motivation for a murder, for instance. Is it really that much worse if someone is killed because they are black or a Muslim? Conversely, how can you tell a family who lost someone in a home invasion that the murderer won't face the same type of penalties as someone who killed over race or creed?

They already have extra laws that make them more important than normal citizens. Why more?

Cops have killed over 7000 citizens since 2000. That number is low since PDs are not required to keep track of killings or required to turn them in. In fact I wouldn't be shocked if thats half of the actual #. Cops shouldn't be getting protection from us, we should get protection from them.

I approve of this message

Though FWIW, there should be no such thing as hate crime law. All lives matter, and one murder or crime against another person shouldn't matter more solely bc of the victim's skin color. But I think this bill is great for trolling SJWs, and for that, I support it wholeheartedly

"Killed", not wrongfully murdered, being the key distinction here. Many criminals fight back against police instead of being peacefully arrested, and sometimes they won't go down without being put in the ground. That happens far more than police wrongfully killing someone

There is no reputable source that keeps any data on this subject. There are around 400 "justifiable" homicides per year, according to the FBI, but anything outside of that is going to be some made up shite.

I do not support any "hate crime" legislation. It is unconstitutional.

Attacks on Peace officers, a designation which includes police officers, already comes with a stiffer penalty in our criminal code. This legislation, like all hate crime legislation, is completely redundant and unnecessary.

They only want to be equal when it benefits them, rest of the time they want to be above the law.
