How did you like it? Worth a 5 hour drive? Is it something you'd go to again?

A long time ago. Still a memory that sticks out. Nice hiking hills and you can see all the stars at night.

Family camping trip?

USed to go all the time when I was younger for family vacations. The park itself is dry, as in no alcohol. So If you go I would suggest staying at Neal's down the river and just going to the park for the day if you want to.

Right now is a great time to go with all the rain Texas has gotten. Some recent years haven't had enough water to float.

Plenty. Float and enjoy the river.

We try to go every year for a few days. Nice cold River to tube. GSP has a dance each night. The dance is outside, country music ( lots of George Strait), and hot.
My kids love it.

Check the flood levels if you're wanting to go soon. We've had a ton of rain and lots of flooding. You'll have a great time if conditions allow it.

There's a restaurant/bar there named The House Pasture. Every weekend in summer they have Texas Country stars playing.
Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, Cory Morriw, Stoney Larue, Wade Bowen, etc.

Grew up going there in the summers. Garner is a nice state park with activities for the kids. But drinking is banned. We always stayed at private cabins along the river so my Dad and his friends could keep their beer cold in the river while we kids swam. Great tubing down there and that's what we did all day. There is also a great drive over to Utopia on the Sabinal River....sort of a little mountain pass. Its Ranch Road 337. Over in Utopia there is the Lost Maples Cafe that is good for lunch and Lost Maples State Park which is worth a few hours hiking the river bed....although it may be full of water now.
