Has anybody heard if LP schools have closed tomorrow?

I was told by a coworker and a student that they received texts from teachers in LP saying it is. Ummmm...how can that be true? I don't see how this weather system can cause any issues like we had the last two weeks.

Aren't you a scumbag teacher? Why don't you call and ask if you have work tomorrow?

Embarrassing, if so. It isn't at freezing temps now, nor will it be tomorrow.

My MIL works at an LP school and laughed when I asked if they were off

They better not be! They're going to have a record number of kids fail these new common core standardized tests. They were off 3 weeks for Christmas and with all these "snow outs" the kids wont be ready for these new tests. I have been told that the test dates will remain the same no matter what. Then our kids will have to go to school half of their summer break to make up these days!

They're going to take away one half day for teacher in service, but nice try at trying to be dramatic

If they keep shutting down the schools parish wide for what has been 2 days a week due to weather, there is no way that the school board wont add days to the end of the semester. And it will be more than taking away one half day if this weather pattern continues.

You do realize most school districts schedule about 15-20 more days than needed
Posted on 2/6/14 at 12:23 pm to SaintCajun
That was the school boards excuse for adding days when we were out for Katrina...........
Posted on 2/6/14 at 12:28 pm to SaintCajun
After Katrina, LP had add a few minutes to each day to make up for missed time. The following years, they have kept the same time schedule, so when unexpected weather hits they are alread ahead of the mandated class time.
But the point about test scores is legit.

Yea it's not about the days, it's about the instructional minutes.
