He's old and doesn't fly often enough to be safe.

Yep, I predict Harrison will auger in to Mother Earth sometime in the near future. Hopefully he only kills himself when this happens and not anyone else.

Wake turbulence is a real thing and can flip a small plane. SOP says you land further down the runway and take off further up the runway when following a jet

All true, but Ford landed on the taxiway, and was totally unaware of what he had done until informed of the mistake by the tower.

Aviation safety experts have said that mistakenly landing on a taxiway is almost unheard of, and that there was no excuse for what could have turned into a disaster at John Wayne Airport.

Didn't he also just crash land a plane on a suburban golf course?

LINK

This video is a normal approach to runway 20L at John Wayne Airport, go to 2:35 for start of landing approach. Instead of doing what the pilot in the video did, Ford landed on the tarmac/taxiway area to the left, it took a major lapse in mental agility to be that confused.

After Ford landed, Edward Patton, the captain of the American Airlines jet, contacted air traffic control by telephone and discussed the incident with Irene Willard, the tower manager.
