I think it's more of the every action has a reaction sort of thing. For example, I'm very nervous that if I take a picture of my taint that it could be published if I lost my phone, accidentally texted it, or had my phone hacked. This is why my phone contains no taint pictures.

So this guy essentially commits a sex crime and gets six months, yet the guy who guessed Palin's email password got a year.

I think we've gone off the deep end with that label. It jumped the shark when kids sexting other kids got the sex-offender label and solidified it's standing as meaningless when a senior in high school banging a sophomore can get the same status.
When a dude breaking into a secure database that happens to contain sexual photos is labeled a sexual offender, then that's the day when basically every dude on the planet becomes a sexual offender. God forbid we fap to naked pictures. This female-scentric idea of right and wrong has warped our society in some very unintended ways.

Article doesnt say if he pled guilty or went to trial. I'm guessing the 'admitted' means he pled guilty and down to a lesser sentence.
