Didn't this just happen somewhere else?
quote:
A police dog died as a result of being left in a hot patrol car, according to GSPD spokesman Sgt. Jason Woodruff. The three-year-old dog was left inside an officer's car on Thursday, June 18 during a hurricane preparation conference in Gulf Shores. "Mason's handler Corporal Josh Coleman forgot that Mason was still in the back seat of his patrol car. On discovering Mason's absence Cpl. Coleman located him in the vehicle," the statement read. No criminal charges will be filed but the city and the department have taken action against Coleman. Mason was photographed at the Hurricane Preparedness Expo on Thursday, inside of a building. Officer Mason was immediately transported to a veterinarian for care upon discovery but died on Friday, June 19 of heat-related causes. Mason was a "community engagement officer." "Mason was not an enforcement K-9. Enforcement K-9's spend a good deal of time in their handler's vehicles, so those vehicles are equipped with remote heat alarms, water bowls., and other protective measures. Because Mason's duties did not include long periods in a vehicle, those protective measures were not available in his handler's car," Woodruff wrote. The department had just celebrated the dog's birthday. Woodruff also issued a word of caution to the community. "This situation has been devastating for Cpl. Coleman and his family and we hope that they are able to work through their understandable emotions. This is a tragic occurrence that has left the entire organization mourning a terrible loss," Woodruff said said. "It also illustrates how easy it is to become distracted, and how quickly heat can affect those that we love that are particularly vulnerable to it. Please keep this in mind when transporting children, pets, or the elderly," he said.

He's a cop killer.
If a civilian did this there would be charges.
I know it's likely a monumental accident but you cannot have two sets of laws.

So annoyed with these irresponsible dipshits carrying guns around charged with protecting people. Raise the fricking pay and let's get some worthwhile candidates into these jobs.
It's atrocious at this point

Yep. Rules are rules.
Cop killers should all do time.

He can't even be trusted to remember a dog that he likely spends every day with? Great - let's give him a gun and ask him to make quick decisions that may involve life/death.

Jeez cops even kill their own dogs.

Dog was a traitor to his kind. With all of the cops killing dogs these days he should have known this was coming sooner or later.
There are two sets of laws in this country. One for LEO, then a stricter set for everyone else.

Ding ding ding
He either did it intentionally, which makes him a cop killer, or he did it by mistake, which makes him incompetent. Either way, he's a liability and should be removed from the force immediately.

I'd actually like to see the Venn Diagram for those people upset that a cop forgot his K-9 partner in the car to cook and those who get upset about absent minded parents who leave their babies in the car to cook.
Me? They both have no excuses...it's simply not possible for a responsible person to do either. I managed to get both my sons through their toddler years bringing them a thousand different places and never forgetting they existed while with me.
But I'm thinking there will be quite a few who seem to understand parents "forgetting" babies but won't say the same for this a-hole LEO. I'm thinking the overlap of being pissed at both is not going to be as many as one would hope...
Feel free to weigh in...
And yes...this tool needs to be treated as if he killed a LEO officer just as if anyone else would be if they killed his dog.

Both are inexcusable and disgusting.
