I was in Destin last week. The waves were the biggest I've ever seen out there.

You can't go in the water. You can still go on the beach

Yep. And there were man-o-war out also. We found a few dozen washed up

Yeah someone I was with said they saw one washed up early in the morning. Wednesday night was fun watching the tide start to come in.

Very sad to hear. Father of 2 yr old drowned last year when we were there with his wife and child on the beach...terrible stuff.

Never experienced major riptide events. Can't even imagine.

On Memorial day saturday the SO and I swam out to the second sandbar and walked around.

By the following wednesday both the first and second bar were completely GONE. It was crazy.

By this measure, Baton Rouge should be closed until people quit getting killed.

Dang. Spent the weekend in orange beach and didn't have any problems, thank goodness. The rays were everywhere. Cool to see from a few feet away. Not so cool when then come up right next to you out of nowhere.

I know Matt Hattaway (the guy from Bossier). He apparently went in to save his fiance's younger brother and got pulled out with the tide

It was storming yesterday. It was not a wise decision to get in the water.

I didn't know those lived on the gulf coast. Were they purple?

It is. Matt just got engaged a few months ago. Was by all accounts a great guy.

We were in Destin 2 weekends ago ... BIG waves on Saturday. Saw what I thought was a jelly but it was bluish/purplish. Someone told me that was a man o war (or whatever). Yikes.

Have some friends at Fort Morgan now ... bummer.
