HAGATNA, Guam — The Guam Legislature Thursday narrowly passed a bill for the creation of a pilot program to chemically castrate convicted sex offenders.

The Chemical Castration for Sex Offenders Act passed 8-7, according to a release from the legislature.

The pilot program at the Department of Correction will screen and refer convicted sex offenders to undergo anti-androgen treatment, or chemical castration, one week before their release. The candidates will be those eligible for release on parole within six months.

The bill will be forwarded to the governor.

quote:

“Thank you to my seven colleagues for passing this measure. With the support of Governor (Eddie) Calvo, Guam will join seven other jurisdictions in the nation and will be the only territory in adopting chemical castration for sex offenders and pedophiles,” the bill's author, Republican Sen. Brant McCreadie, said in a press release.

Simple problem, simple solution. Now, they don't have to pay to keep them in jail.

Why don't they just perform actual castration? That would probably be cheaper.

My only concern is the method of implementing the program. I think it should apply to newly convicted offenders rather than people who have already served their time under a sentence which did not include castration. Now on the eve of their release they find out they will be castrated.

Im conflicted by my support for the punishment but it's counter to basic principles of law which I am used to.

Man i hope this is successful so it can be adopted elsewhere.

And i don't want to hear about civil liberties, you lost those once you became a sex offender.

Unfortunately, pedophilia has a better chance of becoming legal in the US.

"Sex offender," which in the U.S. (at least in some states) includes having consensual sex in public places, being naked in your own home in view of the outside, consensual oral sex (remember the GA case with the kid that was going to play Ivy League football). Yeah, I see no obvious issues with this practice.

I may be alone on this but, how would they piss? Would it cost more in medical procedures to make this happen? Maybe I'm thinking too much into but I'm sure they don't just melt their junk off and say, good luck pal. All for it though. Just a thought.

Well this would be really, really bad in the US. American sex offenders aren't just pedophiles and rapists. Not even close.

Perfect irony considering your username. Seriously... Google castration.

Yeah, given our definition of "sex offender", this would be a terrible idea practice in the US proper. Not sure how Guam, as a US territory, defines a sex offender.

Another example would be an 18 year old who has sex with a 15 year old at a high school party. That would be a ridiculously enormous, cruel and unusual punishment.

Not to mention: can women be chemically castrated in an equally effective way? If not, then what are they going to do to them? Equal protection under the law would rule out actually implementing this kind of thing in the 50 states.

After the sulfuric acid burns everything off, they'll be too traumatized to piss. It also solves a public hygiene problem at the same time . . .

I'm for chemical execution. Faster and 100% effective.

Yeah this wouldn't survive an 8th Amendment challenge.

Just wondering. I've never googled it or been friends with anyone that had their penis destroyed.
