I'm just here for the Jalen tweets

That was such a sad situation. Totally avoidable. Now Cardell Hayes will be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

The author would seem to have quite the bias towards Mr. Hayes' claims.
Mr. Hayes is portrayed as the victim.

It tells the story of the Will Smith shooting, and the story of the man who shot him. However, unlike many reports, this article does not portray the shooter as a thug.
As a life long saints fan, I, unfortunately, kind of agree with this version of that night. :(

I can't be the only one that thought of this Will Smith before clicking the link, right?
EDIT - Great article, even for GQ standards.

Amazing article. Should be an interesting trial. I think a good lawyer could hang that jury with the facts presented.

It's the most stupidest ignorant fricking article ever. Cardell was a thug wanna be piece of shite.

Will was such an upstanding citizen. Dragging his wife down the street by her hair and whatnot.

Cardell certainly looked like he could shoot a man over a dented fender
So basically he was charged because of racism
quote:
The white guys apparently saw the gun in Cardell's hand, because they converged on Kevin. They were throwing punches but not connecting because Kevin is tall and rangy and has a brown belt in Kenpo and squats 350 just to warm up. Mostly, he was worried about avoiding an assault charge. He had his eye on Cardell, though.
quote:
Racquel was between Smith and Cardell, keeping distance between two big men. Cardell, Kevin swears, was being careful to keep his hands at his side. Smith swung once, twice, a third time, three sloppy rights that made glancing contact.
Please don't do that, Cardell said.
Lolz
quote:
He shot Smith, shot him eight times, one in the side and seven in the back. He might've shot Smith's wife, too, once in each leg. Didn't mean to, though, if that matters at all.
No agenda here

I think the spin of him being a generally decent human being that made choices that in the moment felt reasonable but with distance were terrible isn't far fetched.
When was the last hardcore gang violence incident in Nola where the dude unloaded his gun, waited for police and asked bystanders to stay? "His" version of events is obviously way on the other end of the spectrum from the smith family- and surely the truth is somewhere in between.... I just get the feeling that the truth is closer to his (and that's not commentary on whether he will walk).

Hayes will not be convicted of second degree murder. They could possibly get him on a manslaughter charge but even that is questionable.

Except that isn't what this story spun. I don't think he was some terrible human being
He sat there, let Smith punch him 3x, and responded with "please don't do that". His friend and him were apparently dodging punches left and right
He also "might have" shot his wife in each leg. That's gonna be a tricky one to explain with the height disparity.
Then you have the fact that he rammed the back of Smith's car and got out with the gun in the first place. There are a lot of obstacles for the defendant in this one.

Where is it being portrayed this way?
I've discussed this enough on Saints Talk and with attorneys in the area. This article is a joke.

No matter what the article says, Hayes should've never gotten out of his vehicle with a gun in hand (especially considering the fact that he hit Smith from behind). Both parties are responsible for what happened, but Hayes getting out of his car with a gun in his hand sent the whole thing to another level.
