Our electricity went off and back on several times this morning. Now our central air is blowing but not cooling. Husband says something keeps throwing the breaker. Can someone recommend a good A/C service? We're hot!

it makes me to imagine a person going through this and thinking: "I know...I'll go check on Tigerdroppings to see if anyone knows a good A/C guy!"

Is the fan outside spinning?

Might need a new flux capacitor

There is actually good advice to be found on the OT. You just have to filter through all the jackassery first.

and also tell us what city you're in...

If it keeps throwing the breaker, it could be the compressor going. That's pretty much exactly what happened when mine died.

Call someone out and not worry too much about price just yet, because you may be waiting a while no matter who you call out.

One of my units just died as well. Its an older unit so it was suggested that I switch out the coil/Freon to new Freon. Was quoted 1600 for the unit and another 1600 for the coil inside the house. Reasonable?

Edit: I was told I could have it replaced tomorrow.

Good, cheap or fast. You get to pick two.

Does that include parts & labor? If it's the full install, that sounds pretty reasonable in general. Of course it all depends on tonnage, brand name of the replacement, etc, etc.

Yes it does. I am unsure about the specifics of the replacement, but it is for 1 of the 2 units of my house. Probably servicing about 1200 sq ft.

I am going back and forth with Entergy about getting enough power to my house. The voltage keeps dipping which caused the capacitor in the newer unit to go out, then killed the older unit (assuming due to stress).

I have had this happen a couple of times. I solved it by shutting off the AC unit at the thermostat then going outside and cutting off the breaker to the unit (not at the unit, at the big breaker box to the house) then wait a little then turn back on and turn the AC back on at the thermostat. Just seems like something gets out of whack and resetting the unit after the power outage has fixed it, at least for me.
