otherwise enjoy a very nice national park and check out Cades Cove and walk some trails to various waterfalls. skip clingmans dome. overrated due to acid rain.
I got back 2 days ago. Brought the kids and they enjoyed it. We did Cades Cove just after sun up and it was nice. We walked up on many deer as we were checking out the old cabins. Hiked to Abrahm's falls and it was nice. Got very crowded later in the day. I'd go first thing if you can. We had to wait on the deer to get out of the road to drive through early in the morning. Later it was bumper to bumper traffic which detracted from the setting.
Clingsman's dome was well worth the time. There was still snow up there and all the trees were still frozen white and had ice completely encasing the branches. I had never seen anything like it before. Trees looked like they were made of silver.
Of course all of that is gone now, but I'd definitely visit Clingsman's dome
Met a guy walking the Appalachian trail. The kids walked with him for 30-40 yards just so they could say they've hiked the trail.
There is a little restaurant on Wears Valley rd called Friendly Falls. Very cool little place where you can sit and have a beer or eat outside overlooking a waterfall. Nice couple just opened it a few months ago. That was my favorite place to relax and hangout. No crowds, great views and good food.
The Lost Sea is a cool cave system with the largest underground lake in the country. We enjoyed that as well.
