The bible promises an afterlife for those that accept Jesus. It doesn't promise happiness, health or wealth. People assume God should give them everything they need but get mad when he takes something away. I am no stranger to horrible tragedy and hated God for it but now I understand how selfish that is. This life is the beginning not the end.
The statement should end that you shouldn't try to handle things alone but turn to God for help. Most of us never do and that is why we don't understand tragedy.
I think this is the actual bible verse you are remembering and you can see there is a difference. 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Translate??? Not really, but could we remove the whole talking salamander who was turned into a snake, and men challenged by god to KILL their children, just to prove their faith, then HAHA, stopped at the last second, and condense it into something palatable that teaches you to love one another? Like the Tao?
