I've posted about this dog before. Well it has come to that time. She is already on Craigslist. I can't bring myself to return her to a shelter unless it is a no-kill shelter. The shelter we got her from will definitely put her down.
She is still a puppy so she is very adoptable. The problem is the son I bought her for wants nothing to do with her. This is a 12-14 year old boys dog. The dog needs someone who will play just as rough and tumble as she does. My six year old is not that dog.
Houston area. I have CAPS nearby and have already touched base with them. They SEEM like my best option. Can any of you think of another option near me?

All you need is some time. A puppy is way more active than an older dog. The dog will settle down.
I'd never just "give up" on a dog.

This thread makes your son seem frail

How long have you had the dog?

He likes musicals and always dances with "jazz hands"! You nailed it.

Wow. What great father you sound like. I can't wait to see how your son turns out after all the great lessons you're no doubt going to teach him.

What pushed you over the edge....did a steaming pile of dog crap squish through your toes this morning?

I have a chocolate lab that's less than 1 and is a huge challenge.
You have to establish dominance and make it clear what kind of crap she can't get away with.
I hooked a shock collar on mine and beep it before I shock her. Now anytime she hears a beep she stops in her tracks. Totally different animal since I bought it.
If she ignores the beep, you shock her.
If she's the kind that jumps on you, just knee her in the chest when she does it and that'll put a stop to that.
In the dogs mind, there should be no question who's in charge.
**all of this is assuming you're having problems controlling the dog.

You forget about training, or making site the dog gets enough daily exercise. Quitting is not only the best course of action, but it's a great lesson for your son.
Is that why you're an alum wannabe? Quitting?

Sounds like you gave up on your son too

Giving up already on a puppy? That's pretty weak man.
Good job putting it on CL so it'll become a dog fight practice pall for a 90lb pitbull

Nope. She's just not a fit for this house of family. Happens all the time. Or dog rescues would not exist.
Our plan is to have her spayed and round of shots with rabies vaccine (which is already paid for with adoption) and take her to CAPS weekend program. Essentially you leave the pup over the weekend and if she is adopted that's great, if not you pick her up and try again next weekend.
Just wondering if anyone in the Houston area had any other ideas or groups that they've dealt with?
I knew I would wade through 2-3 pages of "you suck/sons a fig/you're the devil incarnate" before I would get a helpful response.

Nah. Threw $100 on there to keep this from happening.

Her best chance is with a program like that, where you basically foster her til she's adopted. Finding people to foster the animals is one of the biggest challenges for animal rescue groups.
