re: Giving Two Weeks Notice

No it's not at all, actually.

Well maybe for rent-a-cops and burger flippers such as yourself, seeing how there are a plethora of people out there that can do your job.

However, for people with actual skill-sets that are in more demanding and professional positions, it can take longer to find a viable replacement.

Not always. Depends on your position and where you are going. People in financial services industry (and other competitive industries with access to valuable information / book of business) are usually watched as they pack up their personal stuff and escorted to the door the day you give your "notice." Not saying it's always confrontational or anything, but most of these types of companies have procedures in place to protect themselves.

I doubt plenty of people could even pass basic training, let alone the advanced training I went through, let alone do the job. Yourself included

Omg you passed the advanced training????? Watch out we got a badass over here.

Sick burn bruh, you got me good I'm scum and easily replaceable for choosing to take over the management of my dad's business so he could at least semi retire at age 60.

Sorry the guilt card doesn't work on me. I couldn't care less about your motives. I just think it's hilarious that for months now you allude to how successful you are and how you are above everyone else on these forums when in all actuality you haven't accomplished jack shite in your life and had to resort to working at your dad's shop because your rent-a-cop stint wasn't panning out.

I never give two weeks notice. Would they give me two weeks notice and pay? Of course not. So why should I extend them a courtesy they wouldn't give me?

re: Giving Two Weeks Notice
My company has lost some cases like this. We had to pay the 2 weeks. Hell we had to pay someone unemployment d/t reduction of hours when they requested the reduction of hours.

The system is fricked up!!

re: Giving Two Weeks Notice
Well your company was kind of fricking the employee over so I can't say I disagree with the court's decision.

Again this is why I don't give 2 weeks notice. Sad that it has to be that way but companies just can't be trusted not to screw people over.

How is the company fricking over the employee? Employee is saying he's going to quit in two weeks. How is the company in the wrong for saying "frick it, leave now"?

I actually sort of agree with this. If a company decides to part ways with you do they give you 2 week to find a replacement job? Of course not.

On the flip side though, I believe in never burning bridges.

It's funny you thought that giving two weeks notice acts as a contract for two weeks continued employment with pay.

I worked as a financial advisor and gave my notice and had to leave that day. I knew that going in though, so I didn't tell them until the day before I started my new job.

re: Giving Two Weeks Notice

Telling someone to take a hike when they put in their two week' notice is pretty standard.

Depends. In most white-collar positions this is not the case, they won't be able to simply replace you or even do without you on short notice. If you're senior enough they'll want to keep you around as long as you are able.

If you are utterly replaceable then you can probably expect to be shown the door though. Which means leaving was probably a good move.

Learn to read. I said MOST employers in a professional work environment encourage you putting in your 2 week notice and I stand by that.

Again, you probably don't have much experience with this because of your lack of professional work history. I doubt most mechanic shops would have a hard time finding someone else to change people's oil so they probably wouldn't encourage a 2-week notice.

They give you the courtesy of advance notice that you're going to need to fill that position and for that gesture they are rewarded with losing out on that 2 weeks of pay. You don't see how that's kind of shitty?

this works both ways tho, i dont think any oil shops would ask a guy to leave right after putting in their 2 weeks.

they would at least let them finish out the day or until they found a replacement.

exactly, its a huge favor the employee is giving the employer. to screw them out of 2 weeks salary that they could be depending on is an a-hole move
