I usually get my sales staff gift cards to Ruth Chris or equivalent $100 to $200 depending on their level of achievement, but this year i had one of my guys buy me a yeti. Now im feeling like the gift card isn't adequate. I'm a little torn here the guy made bank this year 250k+, and i helped him on a lot of his deals. Should i take this as a thank you or nut up and spend an equal amount in return.

Sounds like he was telling you thanks for putting money in his pocket. Leave it at that. Keep your usual tradition intact.

My boss helps me make a ton of money so i bought him a nice watch. I don't expect him to buy me anything at all in return.

Keep the employee gifts at even value across the board (for same level employees). They will all talk and know what you gave the others.

I don't think you need to match his gift amount.

Besides, there's a good chance he stole the Yeti.

I've never been an employer, but if I were to give someone a gift that was more than what we customarily exchange, and they one-upped me I would feel I was inadequate. Take it as a token of appreciation and do what you normally do.

I gave my boss a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes.

She showed me her tits in return.

I work for my wife.

If you helped him make 250k a Yeti is a slap in the face.

It's probably a knock off if He's a sales guy anyway

That's like getting a gift for your cat, I mean it kinda makes sense but it's pretty weird.

I don't care what you do about the gift dilemma - where can I find an application?!

I would guess this.

Keep your tradition in tack. I have never had a boss buy me a present.

I've never seen it that way. if they do well, i do well. we have common interest. I've tied my comp directly to their output so i don't think they owe me anything.

If you're cool with the guy, invite him over and open a bottle of expensive liquor and have a few drinks.

Then let him frick your wife.

Should be good then.

That guy is just being an a-hole. You have a working relationship. Getting a gift at all isn't even necessary and just a nice thoughtful token.

I think you are probably putting too much thought into it, but that's just me.
