Anyone have any experience with graduating and wanting to go back and get a degree in something else?

I was wondering if any of my credits from my history degree would transfer over for an accounting degree without me having to take all of the lower-level courses again. Well aware that I will have to take all of the accounting core classes, just don't want to have to take BS ENGL 1001, etc again. Any info is helpful.

college is overrated. I wish I knew that before I went into it. Too late to drop out now with like 2 semesters left though.

oh well. If I could have done it again I would have enlisted.

You won't have to take English, but there are all kinds of lower-level prerequisites, and business electives like MGT. You won't be able to just run through the Accounting curriculum and be out of there in a semester or two. I can almost guarantee you'll have to have a couple of semesters of College Algebra, a Calculus class, a couple of Econ classes, a MGT or FIN course, and several courses of what they used to call Statistics-I think they call it something else now.

Okay. This post is right up my alley.

I graduated in Spring 2014 with my BS in Physics from LaTech. The only difference between us is that I realized late Junior year that I really was not passionate about Physics (long story) and I needed to get on board with a applied program. I did my research and wound up getting accepted into SUBR Master of Engineering program.

In most cases, you will not be required to take the lowest level of courses (the 1000s) but it can vary due to the major of study. A good adviser would be very helpful.

ETA: Any experience can also prove useful, have you ever done any type of office work. I did research work prior to coming to grad school.

If you are trying to become a CPA I don't think you actually need a degree in accounting. You do need accounting and business hours though. See link below. I Think accounting classes are offered through correspondence or in the evening.

So why don't you commission if you feel like serving? From experience, I wish I would have stayed in college the first time and not enlisted.

Waste less money than what law school was costing. I've taken one of the two MGT courses and only need to take Business Calc as my other only pre req besides the basic pre req's for the business courses.

I feel like an accounting degree would help me in the job hunt and I could finish it faster than a JD would take.

Yes they transfer. I got to keep all of my gen ed classes and a couple more, and that knocked 10-12 out of my flowchart

If I have a PhD, can I skip bachelors and enroll in any grad program for masters?

I'll never understand why people major in something like history. Totally worthless

If you have all of the non business classes out of the way, you can go through accounting in probably a year and a half-two years depending on if you do summer school. It's not a waste of money, if you do well can get a job in the 50-60k range, give or take depending on city and field of accounting.

All of those gen eds should transfer over. You have to have a 3.0 in order to get into the accounting program and you have to have taken a few business prereqs before you can apply.

Just don't take anything with Legoria; that dude is a giant douche.

What field are you trying to get into? If audit is an option, either internal or external, do LSUCIA. Essentially guaranteed internship and full time job assuming you're not a weirdo or stupid. The job will be on the internal audit side, but it if you get with a big 4, it's very easy to make connections in the financial audit group once in.

I'd recommend internal. Take some IT/information systems course as electives where possible. Get your CIA and CISA and the opportunities are enormous.
