The intellectual property laws on patent are what the drug companies are trying to change. As of today the drugs have a patent of 20 years from the day the patent is filed. It may take 8-10 years to get that drug approved by FDA and to market so they have the balance to make their money from research and development to production before the generic comes to market. The generic are identical because there is no need to change.
