Video

I guess they are running out of things to do. Is this really necessary? Granted he waved the one finger salute at the officers, but I am pretty sure that's protected speech.

Gainesville SWAT

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Wearing black romex and body armor once a month because you got a grant from the federal government does not make you a SWAT team. There are professional counterterror organizations in the country. I doubt the Gainesville PD is one of them.

I wonder what the statistics are for the retention of this high priced equipment by these small town depts. I mean, just because Uncle Sam gives you money to buy a $350K armored vehicle doesn't mean you realize how expensive it is to maintain one.

What would you suggest they do with the armored vehicles?

Sounds like it was after a football game, and the video is edited a decent amount. So
With it being after a large football game, I can see why a carrier like that was being used. I highly doubt that is used on a daily basis for traffic control.

I've never seen an armored vehicle being used during Gator games and have never seen the PD in that type of combat gear at games.

They should probably put their toys away or stay in an inconspicuous spot until their type of service is actually needed.

The video maker was looking for trouble and found it. I don't like the "mini-investigation" that resulted but damn, just don't flick off a cop and you don't have to deal with this crap. It seems simple. Yeah, yeah, cops have no right to do this or do that. I get it. But why ask for something you don't want?

The best part of this is their justification for getting the vehicle. "That's the very last resort"

quote:

The Gainesville Police Department received a new set of wheels that has the capability to resist gunfire and mine blasts.

But don't expect the vehicle to prowl the streets unless the department has exhausted a long list of alternatives.

GPD and other agencies across North Central Florida adopted policies to use as little resistance as possible to handle massive impromptu gatherings such as protests or celebrations, and the fleet of available vehicles are deployed only if circumstances warrant them.

“That's the very last resort, and it's something we definitely don't like to do,” GPD spokesman Officer Ben Tobias said. “It all goes back to the relationship we have with the community.

That was funny as shite. He did motion improperly with his arm extended out the window. Makes sense actually.

Incorrect. I didn't receive felatio in a moving vehicle and then decide to flip a bunch of cops the bird. Who has time for that while receiving road BJs?

Dumb.

Those sheriff's deputy's are operator as frick. I picture that guy in his full kit practicing clearing his own house in the middle of the night. I bet his favorite thing to do is debate the exaggerated c-clamp grip with his "teammates" and post on ARFCOM. The term shitbird comes to mind.
