Friend just got divorce, wife had lied to him 10+ years about "dying" child

Need OT opinion, serious question, buddy of mine just got divorced after 12 years, two kids, one was his step son about 16, he adopted when married his wife. Have known this guy for a long time, always thought he and his wife and kids were OK, saw them a few times a year.
Step son had brain tumor that they knew would eventually kill him at some point before adulthood, but we never talked too much about it. Turns out son did NOT have it after all, and he told me his wife had lied to him for all these years! I honestly believe the guy did not know until recently, so was he stupid or was he just married to a sick woman? I mean I honest to god believe she told him this (knew them when they were dating) and he just did not ever question it much. And yes she was/is pretty hot..but wow crazy!

So...the kid didn't die? That's good news, right? I mean...she's fricked up for lying, but would it be better had she been right all along?

How was he never there for doctors visits and such? If you have a tumor, you're visiting a doctor quite often..did he not notice this?

IBM paper I read once said that if there is a bug, then there is another bug.
That is, if you find a mistake was made, its a statistical likelihood that the code has at least one more mistake.
Therefore, I inquire and suggest, 1) what else did she lie about?
2) What is the ostensible reason for the divorce?
OP needs to read this thread and vow to improve his performance in the future.

Did they ever visit a doctor? This guy just believed his step-son had a brain tumor for all this time and never contacted a physician? No check ups or brain scans or anything? He was just assuming the kid would die and they consulted any type of medical care? What?
