Fox News ran an exclusive report on Special Report tonight on how the US Marines are at their breaking point. Their planes are breaking down and in the air training has been cut by 50% due to budget cuts in the last few years. They are literally cannibalizing parts from planes that are supposed to be in the air to keep the other planes in the air.

And the Marines themselves are being asked to do more and more, even working 21 hours a day just to keep their aircraft operational. It’s gotten so bad that some are leaving for jobs in the private sector.

Watch the full report below:

Full video report hrere

I saw this earlier this evening. It was the lead story on Special Report with Brett Baier. It was pretty shocking to hear, especially considering it was the Marines themselves who were saying it. Things are bad. Training is being slashed, equipment is old and worn out. Squadrons are virtually combat ineffective due to down aircraft.

I know the popular sentiment on here when it comes to national security is people only want to have sunshine pumped up their arse how everything is great, we're far and away the strongest and nobody would ever dare frick with us. The truth though is not that rosy though. And considering developments in places like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, the US needs to wake it's arse up while we still can.

It's the reality across all the services, I can't speak as much to not having money for supplies, but with the hour increase. They decide to slash forces, but the work tempo is going to remain, ops are going to remain, and productivity is only expected to increase. No one realizes that stupidity of this all, and every chance someone gets to pad their annual report by including some stupid arse additional step or requirement they will gladly take.

Common sense be damned

Maybe if we didn't spend so much on defense we could cut the deficit.

budget cuts

There's probably a lot wrong with the military today but it damn sure isn't the budget.

Fox News and conservatives are for smaller government.
Now why are they advocating more government spending?

Good to see the war machine starting to crumble. Hopefully, with Bernie as President, we can really start to dismantle it.

Good post Darth. It's not just the military. The civilian ranks are a disaster as well.

The common defense is one of the few duties the government takes on that is actually specified as a responsibility in the Constitution.

It is currently 4.5% of GDP and is expected to decline to 3.8% of GDP by 2020.

The anti-defense bullshite where liberals act like they are actually concerned about spending for once is one of their more specious rhetorical tactics.

Not necessarily in this instance but I can always count on you to be the dick of the thread and state the obvious so I don't have to do it.
