Body Count
quote:

Sherpa rescuers have found the bodies of four climbers inside a tent on the highest camp on Mount Everest, raising the death toll this climbing season to 10, authorities said Wednesday. The bodies were found by a team of rescuers who were there to recover the body of a Slovak mountaineer who died over the weekend, Tourism Department official Hemanta Dhakal said.

quote:

The bodies were at Camp 4 at South Col, located at 8,000 meters (26,247 feet), which is the last camp before climbers make their summit attempt. Any recovery attempt would require many Sherpas, who would have to bring the bodies down to Camp 2, from where they can be winched by helicopter.

There's a pretty good chance those bodies will be there until at least next season when they can organize a rescue party. Camp 4 is no place to be fricking around with a stiff.

Apparently an Indian family is willing to pay 60k for a recovery this season that is being touted as the most difficult one ever.

Push them over a ledge and let gravity take over

I've never understood the fascination of climbing to a height where your body starts shutting down and dying. Call me old fashioned.

There ought to be a rule about this. Die on the mountain, stay on the mountain. Like submariners. Still on patrol....

I guess it's mixed, because the sherpas can ask for a ton of money to do it, and I'm guessing their are climbing sherpas who are willing to take the risk, but the teams/main sherpas probably think it's an absurd thing to ask of them

Everest needs a zip line from the top down. Would solve so many obvious issues.

I have read that there are still several bodies up there from years past and that they could not be recovered. Do you know anything about this?

More protein for the living

It's not like they're gonna rot any time soon.

I bet taking big breath out of an oxygen mask while busting a nut is a rush up there.
