Also, one of the law enforcement officials (DEA I think) set up a sting and during the entire operation actually turned criminal- stealing bitcoins from a fake murder
this should come as no surprise.

At the hearing, the mother of one such victim and the father of another each delivered emotional statements to the judge. The father, identified as Richard, whose 25-year-old son had died after using heroin that prosecutors said was purchased on Silk Road, accused Mr. Ulbricht of being driven by greed in making drugs easily available to vulnerable people.

“I strongly believe that my son would be here today if Ross Ulbricht had not created Silk Road,” he said, adding, “All Ross Ulbricht cared about was his growing pile of bitcoins.”

What a joke. Your son died because of his own decisions to become a junkie.

Yeah thats a bit much. Silk Road made her son a junkie like Hubig made my grampa die of a heart attack when he was 50.

He did way more than that and you know it. He helped traffic drugs and even sold drugs himself. A life sentence may be harsh but let's not oversimplify what he did for the sake of argument.

By setting up a website where they served as a 3rd party to murder, human trafficking, etc, didn't he really do a lot more than that?

Well typically federal judges don't just come up with a sentence. Usually they stick to the sentencing guidelines.

But we would have to have all the facts to know how they got him to that certain level.

Federal sentencing guidelines

The other thing I never understood is that this guy is worth millions and is running an illegal drug market that he can run from anywhere in the world yet he chose to stay in the USA instead of going somewhere with no extradition agreement with the USA.

He kind of seems like a moron when you think abut it.

This, if I ran the Silk Road I would be somewhere so far away.

In fact, the prosecution admitted in court that the purported victims of the Silk Road killings were never found, and that Canadian police couldn’t even locate records for anyone with their names.

I can't wait to see the inevitable movie about this starring Leo DiCaprio or Ryan Gosling.

damn, the Hells Angels are cold blooded.

quote:

That is interesting. How much is it possible to sell on here if we listed every product far cheaper than everyone else? We have a majority hold over most of the movement of products in western Canada (one of the main drug ports to North America). I have researched your site and the concept seems interesting to me (as long as it is anonymous as everyone makes it out to be). We produce LSD/nBome/Ketamine/MDMA/Meth/GHB and import cocaine and heroin in massive bulk amounts. We have a lot of workers who run their own sub distribution networks for the streets, but if it is lucrative we are always looking to expand.
In my partners eyes all they will see is that because of online dealing we are out 700k so I’m not sure they will go for it.
FriendlyChemist refuses to meet up with us because of what he fears will happen. People are starting to suspect that he will go to the police, which is not a problem because he would never be able to give up anyone of importance since he only has ever had contact with low level people in our group and they always take precautions so that even if someone were to turn informant, they would not be able to get any charges to stick. It’s a shame because he moved a fair amount of product.

quote:

There is no loss anymore, also. We were able to recover all of our missing product when we grabbed Xin. After some “questioning” he admitted he was intending on moving to a different country and setting up a new seller account on this site. We don’t take too kindly to thieves. He’s gone.

The Federal Rules of Evidence actually allow you to put extraneous bad acts on in punishment. Ssssoooo you would be wrong.

This guy was a complete scumbag and deserved the life sentence.
