I already hate these stucco McMansions crammed together but today I helped a friend wire his home so that he hide cables to his TV, run speakers outside, and Ethernet to the MIL suite in the back.

Long story short, looks like some workers stashed their snack and lunch trash in the wall above the fireplace. Pretty bad smell coming out of the hole I made from the attic. Rotting food crumbs/roach food. Ick!

I wonder how common this is now-a-days?

If you ever look at a house under construction, it looks like this would be pretty common.

Why wouldn't you use a wireless access point?

As common as the Mexicans building the house.

He works from home on most days and runs servers out of the MIL suite, which is used as an office. Has a cox business Internet connection. Had the router and cable box back there and was relying on wifi and a wifi access point to get the signal into his home but it barely cost any money to run cat 6. He mainly wanted to run power and AV to his TV in the living room. The Ethernet and speakers were lagniappe.

It's allegedly pretty common on large commercial jobs. There are always stories of crews working on hotels and such that are too lazy to come down to the port-a-johns so they just shite and piss wherever they please.

It comes down to the quality of the subs. Cheaper contractor price has its downside. Unskilled labor sucks.

I would've put a decent Cisco WAP in the house (about a $1K) and been done in 3-4 hours.

Cat 6 is cheap, but labor-intensive.

Go plant an azalea by your new home.
You'll find either
A. Extra bricks
B. Roofing shingles
C. Mountain Dew plastic bottles (possibly filled with tobacco spit)
And or
D. McDonald's to go trash bags

It all depends on the builder and how they police their job sites. However, it can still be missed on occasion. It's unfortunate but you may have some workers that use that as a way of getting back at "the bad wealthy people".

Home builders, contractors, home inspectors, realtors, pretty much anyone that has anything to do with building or selling a house are bunch of shady piece of shite squirrels.

You can't trust any of them. I've dealt with plenty of them and still haven't met one that isn't a cheeseball.

I replaced some siding on my house and found a few 1970s empty Budweiser cans in the wall

LOL. Why not drop an extra $3k and get an Aruba? I could become full time free tech support for my friend's setup.

I mean, why would you want to spend $50 and 30 minutes on a wired solution that is faster and doesn't require administration when you can spend more money and more time on some shitty, overpriced Cisco equipment he doesn't need? You must work for a government agency.

I've been an owner rep for about 10 new ship construction or yard repair and all the trades pissed and shite everywhere. On one job when they yard went to load the anchor chain in the chain locker both side were full of shite and piss, had to bring a tank cleaning company in to clean it and the brothers on the cleaning crew were not happy.

There was another one were a welder decided to take a crap in a welding rod can, when he stood up the metal edges cut open his nut sack. Still trying to picture how he did it.

I know someone who moved into a brand new house and the first week his dog went through the dry wall to get a fast food bag stuffed in the framing.
