Any one else on the Northshore (Slidell, Mandeville,etc..) experiencing an unusual amount of swarming termites lately? In past years, we have one or two nights in the month of May where we have to deal with these nasty insects, but this year it seems like almost every night for the last week!

Killed 3 in Metairie last night. First ones I've seen all year. Makes me glad I don't live in New Orleans

There are a ton in Mandeville/Covington. They come out right when the sun is going down. So gross.

Can't be more than Lakeview. That would be impossible. I honestly don't remember them being that bad growing up on the Northshore

I haven't seen any Uptown. Wondering if we'll miss them this year. At least my little part of it.

Turn outside lights off so you don't attract them.

We leave all of our outside lights off at this time of year. They are still coming trough the walls! My husband has set off the Bengal Foggers in our atics, he has been spraying the outside of our house. I am so disgusted! He read up on these nasty creatures and they came from a ship from China.

Formosan termites originated in China and Taiwan and entered Japan in the 1500s. Experts believe they entered the continental U.S. via military ships in the mid-1940s, during World War II. However, this species was present in Hawaii before 1900.

Don't they just come for your indoor lights then?

My thinking is leave some outside lights on that are away from the house, string lights for example, and have them fly to those instead of at your dining room.
