For those with pre-nups, how did it go when you brought it up with your S/O?

As someone who has never had OT money or baller-status, I never once considered a pre-nup before getting married. The thought of it now seems strange - like telling my fiance that we can only get married if she signs one would kill the romance of the engagement and marriage.

So is it different when one partner has money and the other doesn't?

True love doesn't need a prenup, but very few people know what true love is. It has nothing to do with a spark. It has everything to do with sacrifice and doing what's best for the other regardless of cost to oneself.

This is interesting to me. I assume that by asking for a prenup, a person is stating that their money and possessions are more attached to them than their S/O is.

I guess as a poor person, I see my wife as the one thing I would never want to part with. She could have all my stuff but if she left me, it would be the worst thing in the world. But maybe that's a hopeless romantic thought....

prenups only protect what you had before the marriage, right?

so for most people it probably doesn't make much sense

The great thing about a prenup is if this is truly the case, it's just a piece of paper.

Don't have one, and not rich. But I would tell her, if rich, I need to protect my assets. Nothing personal. If she refused, it would be for the best.

ETA:

Most people who are wealthy are that way for a reason, so they have no issues asking these kinds of questions.

It's the same thing as a marriage.

You do not need to have your S/O sign one, now given her status, she may have you sign one.
