quote:

I usually get a little worked up with mechanical issues, but it doesn't last. If it's weather related, then I really know there's nothing to do. Everybody is fricked at that point.

You're right, there's nothing anyone can do about weather. And I much rather fix mechanical issues on the ground rather than something happening in the air and we have to come back or worse, divert.

The one thing that gets me is stupid mechanical things like a broken seat or some dumb arse kid flushed his shirt down the toilet.

I just realize there is nothing I can do to make it better... If its not weather related I will be compensated

Get status and learn how to take advantage of it during IROPS.

I always have something to read. Or if I was preparing for a presentation I would go over it again to make I knew it backwards and forwards. Or just sit at the bar, drink a beer, and read my book.

You still sticking with the paper books? I have to say I really like the convenience of reading off my tablet. Just sucks having to turn it off on take off and landing.

Nah. I have an I Pad now. But when I traveled for business it was paper books. Delays were also a good time to return phone calls and get them off my plate. My assistant would transfer me to clients and then I'd call her back to handle the trivial stuff. This was also before smart phones were popular.
