If I wanted to visit two islands over ten days, is it usually better (cheaper) to:

book a one way flight in, then hop, the one way flight home from the island you are on

or

book a round trip flight to/from the same island and just hop back to that island on departure morning

Two islands in question are Oahu and Maui if that makes a difference.

I would guess it is cheaper to fly in and out of HNL and book a RT on Hawaiian if your airport doesnt service both HNL and OGG.

Google Flights is great for figuring out this stuff.

dude, book a quick trip to tokyo while you're there since you're halfway there.

i always thought that would be the bomb..a quick trip to tokyo in the middle of a 2 week Hawaiian vacation.

Would recommend. Driving takes forever.

Book a round trip to one of the two.

From honolulu to maui I was able to buy round trip tickets in a little pond jumper for $40-60.

Agree. The train isn't too bad, though.

Thanks...airfare will probably be one of the last things we book. I am looking into VRBO now for lodging so trying to figure out how many days on each island and I'll probably start the trip on whatever island is cheapest to fly into.

I bet those flights are cheap as hell too. I know from Cali I saw some the other day for under $300

Book Open Jaw Round trip and find the little puddle jumper from point B-C

Example:
MSY - HNL (Mainline)

HNL - KOA (Small Prop Plane)

KOA - MSY (Mainline)

Never heard of this (thanks google).

Seems pretty easy to do in google flights too. thanks.

This definitely makes things easier not having to worry about hopping twice during the trip.

This is what I recommend. I found it to be too much unnecessary traveling if you fly from Maui back to Oahu then from Oahu back to Nola all in one sequence of flights.

Eta: although I am taking Hawaiian Air between the two islands. Not exactly a small prop plane.
