Has anyone priced hardwood flooring installation lately? Is there a big difference on installation cost versus tile? Considering hardwood in as many places as I can get in new home and am about to start getting pricing.

Our friends just built and put brick pavers in the kitchen. I am not a big fan of it as it just feels awkward.

i had about 1200 ft2 of engineered wood floors installed (glued down) and the estimates I received were from 2$ to 3.50$ per ft2. Be sure to review the contractor you use and make sure they are liscensed with the State board and know what they are doing. I am currently in litigation with a flooring contractor and it has been a huge pain in the arse.

Sub-contract flooring installers aren't licensed unless they are a general contractor. There's no licensing board here for flooring installers ..

I am a fan of the laminates. Looks great, durable as hell and easy to clean/maintain.

Looks like laminate is going to be on 60 minutes tonight and not for good reasons.

Yes, if you are installing 3/4" hardwood and want in done correctly. If you are building new, your contractor can price it for you and pour the slab to accommodate the differences in the thicknesses of the wood vs. tile.

Laminate and water get along as well as Yankee and Red Sox fans do.
I like the wood looking tile for kitchens.

If you are talking about nail down wood flooring, I'd look hard at HTown's post.

You also need to allow for that in the slab plans.

I like the engineered wood flooring.

Looks good, holds up well and works great in the Louisiana climate.

If they do home improvements valued at over $7500, but under $75000 they are supposed to be licensed. (Certificate)

In louisiana if they perform work greater than 7,500$ in contract value they must be registered with the board as a home improvement contractor.

The owner of the company I contracted with was a commercial contractor but the workers didn't know what they were doing and were poorly supervised. They didn't level the floors properly and used too much glue, and got glue everywhere. They let the glue dry on top of the wood and then let it dry and damaged the floors trying to remove it. The contractor I hired agreed begrudgingly to use the remaining money left owed to them allow me to hire another company to come in and remove the excess glue and refinish the boards. A year later I get a letter saying they are suing me in small claims because I didn't pay the rest of the money owed to them.

Laminate gets along with water better than hardwood does with dogs.

I have seen engineered mentioned but have not looked into it. Thanks for the tip.
