Help a bro out. Just trying to maintain the dad bod and stay respectable. I don't have time to go three days a week since I play pick up bball one of the days.

What's the best 2 day work out schedule you have out there that will be total body and provides functional strength (but is not crossfit)

Why not just go lift and have fun if you're just trying to maintain? Hell, just do body weight exercises and mix in some squats

Swimming works out everything~ More for cardio/overall body.

Calisthenics can work out everything~ More for functional strength/overall body.

I've been working on trying to do a planche push-up the past month (still a LONNNNNNG way to go) and it's really helped me lean out my back/shoulders.

So I lied. I do want to get stronger but I am realistic and not expecting rapid gains. Just want to see progress and overall improvement.

Current routine is I do:

Chest/back (superset with 3 sets each and 6-10 reps)
Legs/chest (same thing)
Back/legs (same)

Do this 2 times a week with differing exercises every time.

Do a variety of presses, rows, squats, and lunges. Mix it up within the same basic movements, like Monday do flat barball bench, then Thursday do dumbbells or incline. Same deal with overhead presses, maybe do seated dumbbell one day and standing barbell the other day. Do squats both days, create some variety with the other leg exercises. I wouldn't do any curls or arm stuff personally if I'm only going twice a week. Your biceps will still get a pump doing dumbbell rows, bent over barball rows, pullups, etc.. Some may disagree with that last piece of it, but I'm just thinking in terms of maximizing bang for your buck with twice a week and achieving the best overall gains.

Yeah, I agree. I don't do arm exercises. I'm not in it to get ripped arms

I jog 3-4 miles twice a week and go to a bootcamp class twice a week. It is a lot of body weight but also some gym exercises. Lots of squats, calf raises and lunges mixed with push-ups, shoulders, curls, back, etc. and usually finish with about 10 minutes of abs. it's 50 minutes of hell. So you may want to look for something like that for a total body workout.

Deadlifts, squats, bench, dips, pull ups, and anything for cardio.
