Just ordered one. What do I need to know?

I have one I think the calories burned numbers are way off to make you feel better about yourself. Good Luck

Is this your first Fitbit? The app is great, and you can see how your weekly steps stack up against your friends. You can also join challenges and stuff. If you're pushing a shopping cart or stroller, cutting grass with a push mower, etc., it won't accurately register steps.
I had a Charge HR, but ended up switching back to my One. I can't stand having anything on my wrists, and the One just clips to my bra.

I have a Charge HR. Clean it with rubbing alcohol once a week. Use the app, sign up for challenges. The food tracking you can throw in is a nice bonus.
The motivation works if you sign up for the challenges, unless you enjoy losing.

I uncliped my one on the way home once, hour and 30 minute drive. It rattled around and counted I climbed 85 flights of stairs. Everyone in my challenge was cheering me on. lol

You just wasted $140.
All seriousness, I don't get the fitbit craze at all. I work in a hospital and all the freaking nurses here had them. Of course the conversation was going and I was drug into it because they all know I work out.
Me: What does a fitbit do?
Nurses: it tracks your foot steps and you can see how much you walked in a day on your phone
Me: Oh, so it's just data collection. Basically a glorified pedometer
Nurses: But it does so much more than a pedometer
Me: Like what?
Nurses: you can see it on your phone and compare it with your friend
Me: the exact same thing you can do with a standard pedometer. Look at the counter and compare it with others
Nurses: well the fitbit is easier
Me: ok, I get that. So you collect the data from how many steps you took. Now what do you do with that data?
Nurses: um, well, we look at it so we know how much we walked
Me: I get that, but how is this data useful to you?
Nurses: ..................It tells us how much we walked, that's a useful tool
Me: But you're wearing it at work and tracking how much you walk over the course of your shift. Whether you're wearing it or not, you're still walking. So again, how is this useful? Or better yet, how are you using it to improve your health or fitness?
Nurses: Suzy lost 3lbs already with hers.
Me: That's great Suzy. How's that glass of water you're having for lunch?
Suzy: I'm starving, this stupid diet is killing me.
Me: I don't think Suzy lost 3lbs because of the fitbit.
Nurses: crickets

It makes people feel like they are doing something healthy.

Anything that encourages people to move more DOES make them do something healthy.
OP if you needed some extra motivation to get moving... it should help. Is it perfect? No. I'm sure there will be times that it registers odd numbers. Don't focus on this. My running app screws up every once in a while when the GPS is weak too. It sucks, but don't focus on it.
Try to hit the 12,000 steps a day. Here is a decent article about a popular workout program in Hollywood that uses the fitbit. (You don't need to take things this far of course -- this is football season now... who the hell is going to give up booze.) LINK

In the use agreement they inform you they sell your fitness information.

I use mine to measure runs. It's pretty accurate.

True but a free app like myfitnesspal that tracks your calories is way more beneficial to most people.

I've come to the conclusion that fitbiters are worse than crossfitters when it comes to following.
You have people like us who work out and see these things as a total waste, then you have those who need a device that tells them they are doing something active. I don't see a single fit person wearing them and I don't see any at the gym either. They are nothing more than an overpriced gadget with a gimmick.
Useful if maybe you're a runner some something like that. But what I see is people wearing them at work and trying to convince themselves they are doing more than they actually are. People actually believe that, because they started tracking the same foot steps they take on a daily basis, they should start losing weight.

For some reason people do not understand how little exercise has to do with losing weight compared to diet.

following
You have time. Everyone has time. You can spare 30 to 45 minutes 3 days a week to devote to your health.
We all need motivation sometimes. There's certainly days I don't want to go to the gym and sit on the couch stuffing pizza in my face. Motivation is all about desire and drive though. If you want it, you will motivate yourself and find the time and drive.
That's not a following at all, it's a dose of reality.
For the record, I'm on board with anything that will help people get up and make a lifestyle improvement. I guess I'm just different in that I've never needed a gadget to get me to do so and can't understand why others do need it.
