Maybe or maybe not.
I beg to differ.

You reroute traffic off that KCS mainline for more than one day and it will cause major traffic issues.

It has been my long-term experience that American Railroads go to Plan B about as well as Governmental entities.

WDSU Story on the Fire

Not sure where they get the info for this paragraph:

quote:

EOC officials tell WDSU the smoke is from a marsh fire, but additional details about the blaze have not been released. The fire is believed to be under control.

They can do that, but it's not their tracks, it's CN's.

Please don't confuse railroad routes with public highways.

They are not.

CN already has plenty of traffic on their own track, how much disruption will they take to their schedules to accommodate KCS traffic? Not much.

This is not KCS track. It belongs to the CN railroad. It was going to be replaced soon anyway. Traffic will be rerouted to BR then to Hammond.

Then I misunderstood it was KCS track, regardless historically this type of event causes delay issues.

Aren't they talking about making it a 3 or 4 trestle wide bridge for the replacement anyway?

CN does not have to detour over KCS track. They also own the track to BR along the river and eastward out of BR to Hammond. Trains were being detoured the same way when the spillway was open. It will definitely be a headache but is very doable.

Agreed, it's going to be an even worse headache than it already was.

somting wrong dere.

According to LINK
quote:

Officials in St. Charles Parish said they received a phone call around 8:20 a.m. from workers on the bridge reporting a fire that started while they were working on the tracks.

Workers started marsh fire that started trestle fire???

You don't have to sound like such a bitch Mr. Rail expert.

LINK

Another CN route goes from Hammond to BR, then to N.O.
which runs along Nicholson Dr from LSU.
