That section of trestle was a bottleneck in the national rail network. It had a speed limit of 10 mph for almost two miles. The replacement/upgrade has been talked about for decades. It was thought to be around $60-$70 million to upgrade it to modern-day passenger standards (79 mph) for the entire substandard section over the spillway.

I have been passing by that stretch daily for a few weeks now. They have had repair crews out there everyday working on it. I would bet that something happened with one of the crews and that started the fire.
