The Polk County teacher who was charged with 37 counts of child sex charges was sentenced to 22 years in jail on Wednesday.

Jennifer Fichter was arrested in April 2014 after she admitted to having sex with her 17-year-old student. According to police, Fichter had sex with the teenager 20 to 30 times in her truck in parking lots in the surrounding area. The investigation revealed that she was having sex with two other students as well.
quote:

“You’re going to have a long time to think about what you did. I trust that your faith is real, and you’ll have a long time to let your faith work in your life so that when you come out you’re a different person,” the judge told Fichter. “It bothered me that there were references to that faith and yet there was this activity.”

Fichter apologized for her actions saying that "I wish I could go back and remove what I have done. I hate what I have done. I wish I could go back and think about them [the victims] before me."

According to WTSP, Fichter also admitted that she was pregnant from one of the victims and had an abortion.

22 years is as stiff as I have seen and that goes for male teachers also.

A 17 year old boy should not give her 22 years in prison, that is absurd if that is the reason her sentence was so bad.

How old were the others?

Never know. If the sexes were reversed people would want the guy crucified. Because for some reason idiots have it in their mind that boys know what they want but girls have absolutely no clue

This likely added on years. If she would have had the child, I guarantee that the most liberal of judges (or conservative, depending on how you flip this) would have given her 10 years or less.

Put gender aside and this is still ridiculous. I knew 17 year old college students.

Unless of course the others were much younger.

22 years though? My god.

It's still illegal for someone that's more than 36 months older than a person under the age of 18 to have a physical relationship with them

22 years is bs. Prison for having sex with a 17 yr old is dumb.

A. No one is arguing the illegality, just that the punishment could use some logic. 22 years is ridiculous. There are people with identical charges who receive a fraction of that.

B. It bothers me so much when people mindlessly justify absurd criminal prosecution by saying "it's against the law!". There are tons of dumb fricking laws, form your own opinions.

I don't care about her, just the punishment is ridiculous. You are taking a productive member of society and using tax dollars to house and feed her. Just dumb. Put her on probation, don't let her work with children, something more then just locking her up.
