Well likely will have killed itself before 25 days. I'm looking at their sDOCD and their Uncontrolled blowout on their Worst Case Discharge is 200 bbls of condensate/ day. I also bet it was the accumulator that got them into this situation not the BOP's failing.

I read that they shot the zone and the drilling fluids went south. Guess they didnt have enough bromide on hand.

sorry, 3rd bypass. 3 of the applications I saw were for the same bypass, just revised permits

I hope so. Hurricane could possibly be in the gulf next week and slow down the progress of drilling the relief well.

Were they still drilling or had they moved to completion? There should have been enough barite to keep the mud heavy enough to control the kick.

I'd love to know circulating pressure when this went down.

The blowout is A-3 so that indicates at least 3 drilled. One may have been exploratory but probably not. I'm not sure if the other two are completed, Shut-in, P/Ad or whatever.

I just searched production for this lease, and it's only showing 1 producing well which appears to be this one.

last 2 months of production

11/2012: 228,139 MCF, 1,323 BBL (condensate)

12/2012: 41,311 MCF, 322 BBL (condensate)

Few people in this thread have mentioned the kick was after shooting the perfs

permit just shows a spud date of 6/26/2013, but hasn't been updated with geological information or casing specs so I'm not sure

No shit, I asked that before someone mentioned it happened after they shot.

Was wireline still downhole or had they already started pumping?

Yea this was a TCP job. I wonder what they had in the hole from a test tool/ BHA standpoint. Anybody know if they had POTV/MRCV, IRIS/IRDV, or an OMNI valve in the hole?

If they were using a CT unit couldn't they have just bullheaded and killed the well when it kicked?

Is there any info as to what they did to control the well?

re: Federal agency confirms fire has broken out on blown-out gas well
They weren't using a CT unit. They were using a completion string. One of the main reasons to use TCP guns is to perforate underbalanced. The well WILL start producing if you are truly underbalanced. Using the TCP method of perforating allows you to conduct a drill stem test immediately after perforating.

Probably not much info about what they did to control the kick so that's why we are speculating.
