There are dozens and dozens of better places, especially for someone in Texas.
TC, Detroit, and MI are all 3 hours apart from each other, not to mention they aren't that great. Anywhere worthwhile in the UP is a LONG drive from Detroit. They are all regional vacation destinations.

Hershey Park. We took our 3 boys when they were your daughters' ages. They had a blast!

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge in a cabin in the mountains. My kids loved it.
Cape Cod-much to see and do.

There are some pretty good cruises out of Houston/Galveston. Just make sure and book a 7 day, and they are usually pretty family friendly. They may be OT trashy, but they do have something to do for pretty much every age.

any Beaches Resort. Prefer Turks and Caicos.

We did Washington DC one summer when I was around your kids age and I loved it. Got to tour the White House, Washington Memorial, the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, Georgetown, Arlingron, The Capitol etc etc etc. Also did Williamsburg, VA. It really was a fantastic trip plus it's educational. Also on the plus side is that much of the attractions are free.

Make sure it has no WiFi
???
Profit.
I'll second this. And NASCAR Speedpark FTW.

Not even a little bit. That is work. There's "vacation" in the title.
Fly to Seattle, San Juan Islands, Vancouver, Whistler, etc...

Go to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore and much more. Took kids the same age (at time of trip) and they keep talking about that trip more than any other and want to return there.

I'm bringing my wife, 8yo, and 10yo to Roatan, Honduras and renting a 1600 sf house on the beach within swimming distance of the 2nd largest barrier coral reef in the world for less than we spent going to Disney last year.
My kids love to swim and snorkel and see sea life, though.
